[Reflection] Yeongyu Chang - Newly Found Purpose, Gratitude and Dedication
Updated: Aug 26, 2025
Since joining this club, I’ve had my first real experience with volunteering, and it’s been super eye-opening. Our main activities have included raising donations for kids in orphanages and organizing fun trips to amusement parks for them. Being able to give these kids a day of excitement and joy has been way more rewarding than I expected.
To be honest, I wasn’t all that committed to service at first. But as I spent more time in the club, I started to reflect on my own life and became a lot more appreciative of everything I have. Volunteering has given me a new perspective on gratitude, and it’s made me realize just how lucky I am. Seeing the kids’ happiness and knowing we made them feel valued has had a huge impact on me.
Over time, I found a real passion for volunteering. The fulfillment I get from helping others has inspired me to stay involved in community service, not only during high school but hopefully beyond. I’ve come to see that even small efforts can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it. By giving my time and care, I hope to make a lasting positive impact, no matter how small it might seem.
In the coming years, I want to dive deeper by organizing more activities that encourage learning and creativity for the kids we support. Whether through art, music, or science projects, I’d love to create experiences that inspire them to dream and explore their potential. This club has shown me that kindness, in any form, can truly change lives, and I’m grateful to be part of that change.
