[Reflection] HeeEl Oh - Small Mission, Big Impact
When I first learned about the club’s mission, especially supporting kids who only have one parent, it really grabbed my attention. I thought joining the Green Tree Club would give me more chances to make a real contribution to these kids’ lives. I’ve always relished community service and had done various volunteer work before, but something about helping kids in this way felt extra meaningful. I wanted to create happy memories for them and inspire them to believe in their futures. Even if it’s a small start, I felt sure that being part of this club could make a positive impact on our community, and I believe that small actions can eventually lead to something bigger.
I want to do many activities with the kids in the Life-Giving Tree Organization. My first goal is to give them fun experiences that they’ll remember. For instance, we could go to the playground, do DIY projects, or plan games and recreation with their friends. Activities like these would give them more joyful childhood memories. My second goal is to broaden their experiences. We could explore new things together, like science experiments, learning an instrument, dancing, singing, or even visiting a museum. Lastly, I want to help them learn by teaching skills like English, Chinese, math, or coding.
I believe supporting underprivileged people doesn’t have to involve grand gestures. Small actions like picking up trash, offering food to homeless people, doing fundraisers, or helping kids in need, like we do in the Green Tree Club, can make changes. Helping others can be something simple that fits into our everyday lives. Over time, these small efforts can build up and have a greater impact on society. I hope that by being more aware of those around us and helping where we can, we can make our community a better place for everyone.
Being part of the Green Tree Club has made me think more about the impact we can have on these kids and our community over time. I hope that by showing up for them and supporting them, we can help these kids feel confident and motivated to go after their dreams. I’ve realized that sometimes, the most valuable part of volunteering isn’t just the activities we do, but the relationships we build and the encouragement we give. Moving forward, I’m excited to keep finding new ways to serve the community, knowing that even small efforts add up to something that can really last.
