Three seventh-graders from the Life-Giving Tree Organization joined the week-long Kwangwoon robotics competition. After two days of AI and robotics training (Aug. 30–31), they faced the final challenge on Sep. 6. And wow, what a journey it was!

The theme this year? Building innovative robots that benefit society.

Our project? A medicine-delivery robot for the elderly!

We gathered after school to debug code, tested navigation routes, and rehearse their presentation. We even recorded our practice sessions to review what went well and where to improve.

When competition day arrived, the boys were nervous. Who wouldn't be? But they powered through. Their presentation went smoothly and the robot completed its delivery mission perfectly.

And then came the surprise: fourth place out of sixteen teams! They received an award from the Nowon District Mayor. We were literally jumping up and down, grinning from ear to ear.

The boys later told us that they'd learned confidence through this experience. And honestly, I think I learned just as much. This competition reminded me what it means to be a real mentor: to believe in people until they learn to believe in themselves.
