Bridging the Digital Divide - Digital Literacy Session (Sep. 27, 2025) & Google Classroom HW

When we found out that the children at Life-Giving Tree Organization (LTO) didn't have computers of their own, our Green Tree Club decided to take action.

We pooled together funds from our club's fundraising events and chipped in our own pocket money to buy 12 secondhand laptops for the children. When we finally delivered the laptops, their faces lit up with excitement.

We started holding a computer class on Sep. 27 where we helped them set up Gmail accounts. The children were so excited when they sent their first ever email! We also taught basic online manners and introduced tools like Google Docs and Microsoft Office. The session lasted over three hours, but the children stayed completely engaged, typing, clicking, and asking questions with curiosity.

We also reached out to the church pastors and teachers at LTO, asking them to set aside extra time each week so the children could use the computers for self-study. Soon after, we set up a Google Classroom to keep the learning going, assigning weekly tasks like typing practice, PowerPoint projects, and Entry coding exercises. During our Green Tree Club meetings, we reviewed their work together and shared tips and laughs like a little digital family.

Technology is advancing faster than ever, but not everyone is keeping up. Those with limited digital access risk falling behind in education, jobs, and finances. That's why we're starting here, in our corner of the world, to help close the digital gap.
